The Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Bank Ltd. was registered on 2nd April 1912 (under Section 2 of the Cooperative Act, 1912) in Jabalpur under the name “Provisional Cooperative Bank Ltd Central Provinces,” and later its headquarters was shifted to Nagpur. The bank started its operations with a capital of only ₹5.00 lakhs, with the primary objective of financing agricultural loans. Initially, individual shareholders were nominated to the Board of Directors to give the bank a democratic structure. In the future, most shares collected by the bank were transferred to cooperative institutions and district cooperative central banks to bring institutional representatives onto the board.
